Vacationing With So Much To Do And See In Key West, Florida

By Peter Estenoz

We are having such a wonderful time, we just wish you were here! I know this is the corniest line you have ever seen on a postcard, but its so true, and I had so much to tell you, that a postcard just doesn't have the space to write it, so I'm sitting here on a beach towel, underneath the palms here on the beach, in Key West, Florida, yep, soaking up the rays, and writing you a letter of the things we're doing on our vacation.

As soon as we got checked in, we put on our comfortable clothes and shoes, to explore! So much to see, and yes, we did some souvenir shopping down on Duval Street, in between going into Sloppy Joe's, Captain Tony's, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, and we found Pat Croce's Rum Barrel right off Duval Street. We stopped for a late lunch at the Harborview Cafe, a great waterfront restaurant at the Pier House Resort. We saw a lot of the fishing charter boats and catamarans while we ate, then we headed over to enjoy the sunset festivities of world famous Mallory Square! There are so many talented street performers, and we enjoyed the show of Cat Man, with the tricks his cats do, amazing! I can't even get my cat to come when I call it, all I get from it is a "meow!" We saw the most gorgeous sunset, and we're looking forward to doing the same thing tomorrow, as we heard that all the sunsets are spectacular and different every day! Tomorrow we're planning a fishing charter, the next day maybe a snorkeling trip over to the reef! Our concierge told us, that all we have to do is show up, don't have to bring a thing, and they even provide lunch, and drinks! We want to go on one of those romantic sunset sails! Everything is so reasonably priced within our budget!

While we are here we are definitely taking in some of these tours they have on the island, and we want to visit the museums, like Mel Fisher's Museum, where you can hold a Gold Bar, and see the other treasures he discovered on the Atocha. We want to go to Hemingway's House, I've got to see those six-toed cats! We've even thought about going to the Lighthouse Museum which is across the street from Hemingway's House. Shall we venture up? Heard it was 88 steps up and 88 steps down, but the view is spectacular! We want to go to the Southernmost House Museum, which is also a guest house. We want to also do the tour from the Old Town Trolley, and learn more about the island. Oh yes, and we want to go to the Key West Butterfly Conservatory over on Duval Street. We heard there was a Historium too, the Ship Wreckers Historium, this is full of the history of the salvaging in Key West where they would yell a hardy "Wreck Ashore!," to bring in the goods, and supplies! We also planning to venture over to Fort Jefferson National Park, the Dry Tortuga's as a day trip.

The beach here is so beautiful! What a place to relax and unwind! There is a breeze coming off the water, its so peaceful, and there's a few sunbathers out on the beach, like I am, relaxing and soaking up the rays. Looking around, I see something I have never seen on the beach before: what a wonderful idea, a wedding is taking place right here on the beach, a small group of people just walked out to the waters edge, I see the groom, and friends and family, and here comes a beautiful bride dressed in a perfect dress for the beach, she's being escorted down to the groom, everyone is gathering close to hear the ceremony, and there is a photographer and a videographer capturing this wonderful event! Just them, the water as a backdrop, barefooted on the beach, how happy they look, its as if they are the only people on the beach!, and there's the kiss to seal the union! Hugs and congrats, photos and video! An excellent idea, to combine a ceremony and honeymoon in a destination beach wedding! They'll probably go to one of those really nice restaurants to celebrate! Maybe Michael's, A&B Lobster House, The Commodore, or even Louie's Backyard! For the celebratory desert, definitely Key Lime Pie!

Now I can truly relax, with the breeze off the water, I'm going to sign off on this letter, roll over and work on my tan, I know I'll drift off to sleep and dream of this wonderful place called paradise, Key West, Florida. I'll end this letter to you today, send you some photos too, so you can see what I've been writing about. Take care and we'll see you again soon!
