Every little girl, who looks at a bride imagines what it's like to be a "princess", and as the fairytale finishes with the famous line "and they lived happily ever after," the little girl's dream of the perfect wedding begins.
She watches all the fairy tale movies presented, you know the ones, boy meets girl, and after overcoming all the obstacles preventing it, they fall in love, they declare their undying love with a kiss, yes, finally the kiss, the romantic moment you have been hanging on the edge of your seat for! The next scene in the movie is of course the wedding, yes, a perfect wedding, you don't see all the planning that it takes, but, the moment is there and you see it from all different angles. You hear the music in the background letting you know the ceremony is starting, you see the groom standing with the Officiant, waiting on the brides procession, as she approaches where the groom is standing, and in the next scene you also see her from behind, next the look on the groom's face as he beholds her beauty, and the look on her face as she shyly glances at his eyes. With loving smiles on their faces, they are asked their intentions. After the "I do's" the ring exchange, another moment waited for, the wedding kiss, and the vows are sealed!
What happens next is generally a blur to the couple, as they start the celebration with family and friends. It's a moment in time which fills the hearts with emotions that cannot be duplicated. The question to ask is how will this once in a lifetime moment be captured? How will you be able to recall this event and share it with family and friends, who were not able to be there? Or even your children or grandchildren as an heirloom to pass down? This is a big decision, almost as big as when you said "Yes, I'll marry you!" Will you leave this to family and friend with little or no experience in wedding photography? Or to someone who isn't familiar with where you are holding the ceremony and able to capture not only the beauty that surrounds you, but you in the beauty? This is where the importance of planning and research begins.
As a professional wedding photographer here in Key West, Florida, and in doing hundreds of weddings here on the island for many years, experience gives me the knowledge to tell you that only a professional can deliver to you what your heart looks for in both your photography and video capture of your wedding. Yes, I've seen the many changes in photography as perhaps you have, first starting with medium format, then onto 35mm film, and now to the onset of digital, everyone is recognizing how very important photography is to us in our everyday lives, you know it and I do: it is the preferred way to capture those moments with family and friends. This is why it is so important to not only hire but also confirm the experience of a professional photographer or videographer for your wedding.
So you ask, how does one find such a professional? How do you know they are professional? Do they have references from other bridal couples, reviews? How many years have they been shooting weddings? Is wedding photography all they do, or is it just something they do in their spare time, a hobby? Will they be your photographer or if a higher paying job comes along will they hand your wedding photography over to someone not as experienced as they are? What about examples of their work? Are you viewing complete weddings, or just a few sampling of several weddings? What of the experience of knowing the ceremony location? Is it an outdoor venue also known as an uncontrolled environment, with the constant lighting changes that would require adapting the camera functions to accommodate those changes? Most important will the finished product presented to you be the one that causes your heart to smile, and fill with the same emotion you felt on your wedding day? Yes these are many questions we know, but every one of them is important for you and the groom to consider. After all, remember who's wedding it is, who's dream, who's vision, ah yes, it is your perfect wedding you've planned for, yes, your "happily ever after" your striving for as you begin it as a beautiful princess and a handsome prince!
