Factors To Look When Choosing A Teal Sapphire

By Kathleen Walker

Sapphires are getting extremely popular among the younger group of people these days because of its beautiful color. However, it is important to determine whether or not the stone is valuable or authentic at the very least, especially the teal sapphire which is one of the most popular sapphires that one can find. So if one is interested in buying it for an engagement ring or a necklace, here are a few factors to note.

The first criteria when buying this type of stone would be looking at the color. The best way to judge the color would be to go into a well lighted are place the jewel one foot away from the light. What one would want to look out for would be the deep blue green color that would radiate when pitted against a brightly lit fluorescent light.

After one has done that, try putting the stone against daylight next. If the color changes from its usual blue green to a little more purple shade, then it means that the stone may actually have more value. However, one has to make sure that the purple is faint and that the blue green color is still the dominant color that appears under the light.

From there, one must then check for the clarity of the stone to check if there are any inclusions. These inclusions would come in the form of small bubbles, silky lines or even crystals that may appear when put under a lens. Now, one may be able to spot these inclusions even without a lens but it is harder to do and may need a jeweler eye.

Third, one has to see the cut of the jewel to see if there is symmetry in structure. For the circular shaped ones, one most check out for the smooth surface and the entire shape of the circle. One also has to do this for the square or the rectangle shaped jewels in order to know if there is symmetry.

Take note that if there happens to be any type of large gaps or clear spaces that can be found in the middle of the stone, then it has been cut for the purpose of retaining weight. If the stone is cut like this, then it means it has less value than the one that was cut in the critical angle for more of beauty purposes. So look for the one without the large window in the center.

The last thing that one has note would be the carat weight of the stones. The ideal weight of these stones should be around one or two carats but a higher carat weight can get something that is more valuable. One can get something such as a three to six carat weight stone. That would be rarer and would have a price of five thousand dollars.

For those who are interested in getting this kind of jewel, here are a few things to look for. If one has an eye for jewelry, then this should be easy. If one has no patience doing this, then he or she can also just ask a professional to do the appraisal.
