Time For Jewish Interfaith Marriage

By Sandra West

When deciding to spend the rest of one's days together and one partner is a Jew, then it is time to learn a bit about a religion foreign to the other partner. A Jewish interfaith marriage has become more and more in the norm today as couples meet online and decide to tie the knot. Learning about another religion or one such as this, is not a problem as there are many sites on the Internet that will go into detail about varying subjects.

If one is not of this faith then there is much to know and there is no better way to start than on the Internet. Jewish sites abound and answers to questions one may have can be found here with a little digging. For instance, should one want to use a Rabbi who does this for a living, here too there are options available for looking into.

One such category are the laws of Kashrut or dietary laws. There are some general ideas here that one will need to know especially when it comes to food preparation for the occasion. A caterer can be consulted with who does kosher catering and they will advise and steer one in the right direction as to what may be consumed and what may not.

A period of six hours must pass before one can eat milk after meat so with this in mind it is best to keep to choosing one dish only, either meat or milk. One can however eat milk with fish so many opt for this and include traditional desserts such as cheese cake and coffee to finish off the meal. Seafood is not allowed at all and this includes all shellfish such prawns, lobster, crab, shrimps and more.

Animals falling into this category include cattle, sheep and goats. It may be a nice touch to have an Israeli meal and serve a traditional dish such as shawarma in pita with salads. It all depends on budget and one can explore the many options that a kosher caterer will have to offer.

It is best to discuss these options with a caterer who will allude to the laws that must be upheld. An interfaith Rabbi is a fountain on knowledge and will have a list of caterers for one's choosing. The dietary laws are not that complicated and many do find that they will want to incorporate them into their daily lives.

Another dish that is allowed is Sushi. This is very popular amongst Jews and will definitely get a stamp of approval by all guests attending. It is a must do.

All in all interfaith marriages are becoming more and more sort after as communities intermingle and of course the many dating sites available on the Internet. There is much to discover about a new faith especially if one is thinking of having children. The Internet is a wealth of information and should be used to its utmost.
