By Raymond Lewis

When two adults who were in a relationship separate, the children are greatly affected. This is mainly because they will now have to start living in two households and split how they spend their time between mum and dad. These changes can be hard for everyone, including the parents. This is especially if the emotions are still raw or if the split was hard and bitter. This can make Orange County CA co parenting so much harder. Here are some things you can do, so as to make the transition easier.

You need to accept what has happened. This can be hard to do, especially if the situation was sudden or if you are still in love with your partner. If you fail to accept the situation, chances are that you will try to frustrate them as much as possible and even use the children against them. However, once you accept the situation, then you will be much more open to handling the issues that come up more maturely.

You need to figure out what to do with yourself when your kids are not there. This will make it much easier for you to cope when the kids are with the other parent. Find hobbies that you like doing or activities that you can engage in. This will make you a much more pleasant person to be around when the kids come back home.

You need to know that things are going to be hostile between the two of you. Therefore, before you meet, you need to be mentally prepared for this, so that you can know how to act. You have to control your temper and control how you act around this person whenever you meet them. This is considering that your kids will be there and they don't need all the negativity.

You need to check out everyone's routine and come up with a schedule that will suit all of you. This way, everyone will be happy with the arrangements that have been made. Therefore, sit don both of you and discuss your routines.

Your situations in life will keep on changing. This will require that your schedules also change and that you keep revisiting your initial plans. Avoid being too rigid and be flexible enough to change, as the needs of any of the parents change or if the needs of the child changes.

It is important that you come up with rules about how you are going to raise the child. This will be for the benefit of the child. Part of this includes ensuring consistency whichever house the child is in. Whatever rules apply when they are in dad's house should also apply when they are in mum's house. This will prevent the child from getting confused about what is expected of them.

You do not always have to organize fun and exciting things to do. It's okay to spend a normal day with the child just doing normal everyday stuff. Remember that this is not a competition about who is the coolest parent, as it can get quite draining when you are constantly finding exciting things to do with the child.
