By Henry Stone

Worldwide the Muslim community is rapidly growing. Islamic culture, beliefs and traditions have been in existence for quite some time. Muslims all over the world still hold onto their beliefs. The same norms and traditions were held by those before them and will be observed by those to come. Disagreements have been observed between the new generation and last one. But, this has not derailed them from their beliefs. One of those beliefs is Muslim matchmaking.

In some Christian countries, it has become hard for Muslims to identify with their religion due to increased terror activities. It is hard for such Muslims to practice their religion in public due to discrimination. Most always link a terror attack or activity to Islam ignoring the fact that Islam is more than just religion. It is bigger and beyond activities of terrorism and oppressive regimes.

The Quran outlines clearly the responsibility of a Muslim. These include the four pillars of the religion which are understanding, faith, transmission, and education. The Quran should act as the main source of reference and Muslims have to remain faithful to it at all times. Islamic culture and traditions have withstood several challenges that present world presents.

In traditional culture, family and marriage are patriarchal, making women have a low social class in the society. Such practices are quickly changing and fading due to modern culture and westernization. With this change, Muslims still keep their traditional belief in the marriage process. The process of marriage to Muslims is that a spouse has to be searched for the women. Women have a spouse searched for them as part of the religious teachings in Islam.

Although in the current society these has not been working out well due to technology. Muslim youngsters of today have adopted technology which has led them to distance themselves from older traditional practices. In order to understand this people, need to focus on a wider perspective which is Muslim identity. Identity should be viewed in terms of individual experience and association with several elements.

One of the most important events in life is marriage and it means a lot which makes a Muslim is no exception. Observing this is important as it shows commitment to their faith. Preparation for marriage is guided by several guidelines. Codes of conduct in terms of interaction and etiquette come into play for men and women who are ready for marriage. Rules guiding those who are already married also exist and have to be observed. Flirting as well as contact between married women and men is prohibited.

A special appointed person oversees the adherence to the two most important rules of marriage. It should be noted that a man and woman are regarded as unrelated before they get married. Interestingly this religion does not recognize dating. Unfortunately, technology has facilitated breaching this as most spouses date on line before marriage. Online dating appears to be the main threat to this law.

Though it is a major challenge some Muslims are making something positive come out of it. Such sites are used for the women to know their husbands before meeting them unlike in the traditional practices. Today they get to know their future husbands and even interact with them online before marriage.
