The type of gowns that brides wear during a wedding ceremony are referred to as wedding dresses or gowns. Gowns are either mass-produced or custom produced for clients. Celebrities and the wealthy people prefer having customized gowns so as to stand out and create new trends in the public.

Making of gowns does not have any specific academic courses. An alternative that most people go for is associate or bachelor degree in fashion design. Students take classes in sales skills, bridal design, sewing techniques, and marketing among others. Internships and competitions are also available to students. In the US, annual fashion shows are also available.

To become a specialist in bridal gowns, one must possess certain skills. The most basic ones are sewing and drawing. Before production, one may have to make patterns using graphic design software and computer aided design software, which makes knowledge in such software important. Designers also need to sell their products and interact with clients and having good communication skills is important too.
