Key West, Florida Perfect For Your Romantic Wedding And Honeymoon Destination

By Peter Estenoz

It's not just a marketing pitch when they call Key West a romantic wedding and honeymoon destination. Bare foot sunset ceremonies on the white beach sand here with turquoise waters in front are ethereally beautiful and famous among destination wedding planners. But that's not all, because there's a whole lot more.

Key West is one of the island cities in the Florida Keys, and it offers a very steamy tropical climate courtesy of the Gulf Stream that flows nearby. The city has an ancient dated feel to it, and still has noticeable remnants of its 1521 Spanish origins. The American side of its history isn't so bad either, since visitors can see and feel the presence of legends like Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and President Truman.

This sense of history that hangs over the town, plus of course the natural beauty of the beach and sunsets is what makes it seem so very romantic. The sunsets are so beautiful that every evening there's a 'Sunset Celebration' carnival/party held in Mallory Square. This is where the Gulf meets the famed Duval St., and the fun begins a few hours before sunset each day and visitors can also watch and photograph the breathtaking sunsets.

Apart from beach ceremonies, another popular choice is saying 'I Do' on a historic schooner or luxury yacht. Some also prefer to have the ceremony at one of the Victorian mansions or historic properties here like the Hemingway Home or Truman's Little White House. Many lush outdoor tropical gardens and luxury resort settings are also available for functions.

Considering the large number of weddings that take place here, anything that could possibly be needed is always available. A couple could hire a planner at the drop of a hat, and instantly put together all the pieces including catering, the florist, a videographer and the photographer. As for shopping, Duval Street does offer a healthy selection, but a quick trip to Miami would probably be more advisable.

Even the marriage application & license can be taken care of the planner. Hotels are obviously very capable of offering package deals including rooms for the bride & groom and all guests, the reception, ballroom and even a honeymoon special. While this can be arranged for, it works better if the couple looks into the details in person.

The city hasn't lost its old world charm, but still manages to offer all the modern and necessary amenities and facilities that the bride and groom and other guests will need. The natural beauty, the historic setting and climate is just about perfect for a dream wedding. Bottomline is that it's hard to beat Key West as a romantic wedding and honeymoon destination.
